Pros and Cons of Used Car Shopping Locations
03.10.09 (12:16 am)   [edit]
There are several good ways to buy a car nowadays. After all, not all of us can be mechanics with truck shop software at our disposal, right? So here are some tips. 1. Dealerships. Dealerships are a good place to shop, but you must be prepared to fend off overzealous salespeople. Since their paychecks are based upon commission from the sale of cars, they will likely try to talk you into a car you don’t really want. Also, they will charge you a bit more than a private sale. However, usually dealership vehicles come with good warranties, so their cars are normally a safe bet. 2. The internet is another great place to buy cars, but you must be careful. Stick to reputable companies that have proven track records. People constantly try to pull scams online, and you could either be cheated out of your money or purchase a stolen car unawares. However, online is handy for the amount of information given for each vehicle and the fact that there are no salesmen online. 3. Private Sales. When you really want a great car, private sales are the way to go. However, you must be careful with these as well. The individual selling the car could lie to you or not tell you certain important factors concerning the car. They could also cheat you rather easily and most private sales are sold “as is,” without a warranty. On the plus side, you don’t have to deal with salesmen and the prices are usually lower than at dealerships. And, if you meet the person and feel uncomfortable, you can always back out of the deal. So take the advice of a man who was once without his auto shop management programs and his mechanics shop. Do your research and do what’s best for you. No matter how you choose to purchase your car, make sure you get a good deal and a nice car. - Alex Springton
